Rethinking family album. Initial portrait ideas

While thinking about my family I realised that there are two sides of it - the dark one that I don’t want to remember, my earliest childhood memories and many years after I spent living with my parents and the bright one, which always brings me positive and warm memories. At the beginning of the project I started thinking about the dark side, but I changed my mind, because I thought I might show disrespect to my parents, so I went different way.

Me and my sister connects special relationship. I believe that partially I was raised by my sister, consequently I see her as my mum as well. We understand each other and share same memories. We have similar taste in food, clothes, music, and view of the world. We even look alike and some people think that we are twins even though she is seven years older. She is my idol and my crutch in life. We did not live together since I was eleven years old, but we always maintained connection between us. It is even got stronger as time went by. Eventually we are living together again, just this time in different country and all we have here from our family is each other. So my portrait idea is me and my sister and relationship between us.

Looking through my family album I found two pictures that looks similar but were taken at different time. In the first one is me, when I was three years old and in the second one is my sister when she was same age. What caught my attention was that we not only look similar, but our pose is identical too, even though between these two images is seven years difference.

Other pictures that I found shows our relationship changes throughout the years. Comparing the first picture, where my sister's hands are wrapped around me and we both are smiling, looking at the camera, and the last one it seems that distance between us appeared. My sister stopped posing with me and were more interested in here own life during her teen years.

However, these last pictures were taken in 2012 and 2013 Christmas. So it proves that as sisters we still share close relationship.

After looking through all these old photographs my first portrait idea was to photograph me and my sister same pose, wearing similar outfit just to show similarity between us.

The very last picture that I took reveals motherhood theme, which is relevant in relationship between me and my sister.
