What is family?

Family definition

Oxford dictionary family describes as a group consisting of two parents and their children living together as a unit. However this definition does not apply in today life, it has completely changed. I believe there is two types of families. First one is the one that you are related to and the other one is the people that are close to you.



People in these days sometimes are closer to the ones that they grew up or spent most of their time with, than with the people who are blood related. And they refer them as their family. It is more about what they do together, than the structure of the family. Families take care of each other. They love and help each other out.



Nowadays, the definition of "family" has grown to include more than just the stereotypical married Mom, Dad and kids. People consider as their family friends or even their pets, anyone that they care about. There are different types of families, like the ones that consists of two dads, mums or single parents with their kids.

My family

This is my family. My parents, my sister, grandmother and me.

In the very first session we needed to bring a photograph and the object that says something significant about our family.

That is the photograph that I brought with me

The photograph that I brought says the current situation in my family. Me and my sister are living in England and my parents still lives in Lithuania. On the left side of the picture are my actual sister holding her daughter, it represents me and my sister in England, on the right side people represents my parents, who are still in Lithuania. The wall in the middle is the distance, it shows that it is not easy to connect and communicate to each other. So the only thing that helps us to chat on daily basis are all electronic devices, that is why I took my phone as an object that says something significant about my family.
